Bio:I’ve been jumping rope since around 1st or 2nd grade. It’s been so long I can’t even remember initially jump rope was a club I was interesting in joining at Bay Harbor Elementary. But through that club came a love for a sport I’ve never had before. My highest achievement level was making stage for double Dutch pairs at the USA National Competition. Previously I jump roped because I loved keeping active, traveling, and learning all about the sport. But now I see the importance of spreading my love of the sport, so I’m teaching young children in the central Florida area about it. Jump rope has taught me a lot of life lessons. Things like discipline, the importance of setting a goal for yourself, practice makes perfect, never settling for less than your best, the importance of team work, and the healthy lifestyle I need to live. Currently I’m trying to spread my knowledge of the sport to youth but one day I would love to be one of those old jumpers that compete without a team and are in great shape while my son/daughter is competing alongside me.

ST. PETERSBURG – More than 40 youth participated in this past Saturday’s jump rope workshop held at the Thomas “Jet” Jackson Recreation Center. Veteran jump rope coach, Yvonne Moody, and her team the Hurricane Jumpers came from Miami to teach the basics: speed, power and freestyle.
